🍳 | Brunchin’ at Miss Lily’s Soho

My homegirl Kimmy was visiting NYC this weekend and wanted to meet up, so I suggested we hit up Miss Lily’s in Greenwich Village, at the corner of West Houston and Sullivan streets, for brunch.

For those who are unfamiliar, Miss Lily’s is, according to its website, a “Jamaican-style diner” that culls “from the diverse roots of Jamaican cuisine,” with a menu that offers “modern renditions of island specialties like jerk chicken, escovitch fish, oxtail and curried goat.”

Here’s my definition: Miss Lily’s is a hip spot that serves good-ass food and is populated by beautiful people — that includes the patrons and the staff.

Does Netflix’s Acquisition of “Kate” Signal an Impending Spec Script Boom?

On Thursday, Netflix announced that it was giving a $25 million production commitment to Kate, a female-centric action thiriller from the producers of John Wick and Atomic Blonde.

As Deadline reported, this news comes after Netflix honcho Ted Sarandos revealed that the streaming service plans to create 80 feature films in 2018.

Yes, you read right. Eighty.

My Screenwriting Spirit Animal

LA Screenwriter has a cute little quiz up on their site to determine one’s “screenwriting spirit animal,” and as I was eating breakfast on Tuesday I decided to take it and see who I’d get. Why not? Seemed like fun.

When you click the link to the site, you’re presented with a Buzzfeed-like series of questions, accompanied by helpful GIFs, that will help pin down which writer (or writing team) you’re most like. I answered the questions as best as I could — I must admit to being disappointed that there were no Black actor or actress options when asked about my “ideal cast,” but I digress — and I was pretty surprised at the final result.

I did not have a post ready for today, but then, lo and behold, Marvel went and dropped the new trailer for 2018’s highly anticipated superhero flick Black Panther.
