Video: “The Last Happy Hour” Trailer

Film Random Cool

As some of you know, I’ve been playing around a bit with iMovie, Apple’s consumer-level video-editing application. Man, let me tell y’all — iMovie is fantastic.

So fantastic, in fact, that I am very eager to share with you one of the very first projects I created with it. Behold! I present to you, above, the trailer for The Last Happy Hour — starring me, of course.

Pretty cool, no? Not only was that crafted with iMovie, but it was done entirely with the iMovie app for my iPhone.

That’s right. The iOS version of iMovie comes with 14 trailer templates in which you can plug in your own videos, photos, and text to create big-screen-worthy trailers of your own. (For The Last Happy Hour, I used the “Retro” template.)

But then — then! — when I decided to explore iMovie on my MacBook, I discovered an additional 14 trailer templates were available!

The Last Happy Hour footage was captured with my Canon EOS M3 as well as my iPhone, natch, using the Filmic Pro app. Does Filmic Pro sound familiar to you? It should: It’s the mobile video app that was used to shoot filmmaker Sean Baker‘s Sundance hit Tangerine, one of my favorite films of the past few years.

If there’s one drawback to the trailer templates, it’s that it’s impossible to modify them in any way. Sucks. But hey, they’re still loads of fun, and I’m getting practice in using iMovie, which has gotta count for something, right?

Also, if you know me, you know this won’t be the last trailer I create. Who knows what the subject of the next one will be? 🤔

What did you think about the trailer for The Last Happy Hour?
