May has been quite a month… to say the least.
There were the back-to-back deaths of my sister and good friend, which set me back emotionally as well as financially. I had to return to my hometown of Memphis for my sister’s funeral, a bittersweet trip that afforded me an opportunity to really reconnect with my other siblings and family but also disrupted any plans I had made for myself. I know this may sound a bit selfish and terrible, but the unexpected time and money costs I incurred during this period really threw off all the little plans I’d made for myself.
Again, such is life.
Slowly, however, things are returning to a place of normalcy… or at least, as close as we can get given recent events.
I finished the sixth draft of my current WIP, and it’s in such a great place IMO that I went ahead and finally registered it with the WGA. I’ll be meeting with one of my mentors and my writers’ group soon, so hopefully, the feedback will be positive and I’ll have yet another worthy spec script to add to my arsenal.
Also, I’ve resumed writing Side Chick, my failed NaNoWriMo novel. Well, it’s not really a failed anything. I just didn’t finish it during NaNoWriMo. But who cares, so long as it eventually gets written. In fact, I’m motivated by a piece of advice I gave a fellow scribe on Twitter last night:

So I’m just try’na get this bad boy written.
And I’m also working very hard to create the best video content I can for my YouTube channel. I’m thinking that I’ll save all my writing news and advice and whatnot for, y’know, actual written blogs and instead vlog about my Los Angeles life, specifically food and touristy shit. Y’all know I love my belly, so why not bring those experiences to life for y’all?
So that’s where I’m at these days, fellow kids. Just attempting to right myself so that I can write… myself…
I’ll holler at y’all next time.
