James Gunn to Publish the “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2” Screenplay

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Screenplay

As y’all know, I love all things Marvel, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 is one of my favorite films of the year. So I took to Twitter to ask its writer/director, James Gunn, whether Marvel had any plans to publish screenplays for future films.

He responded thusly:

Oh, this makes me happy.

This wasn’t a random question either. Marvel published the screenplay for Captain America: The First Avenger, and to my knowledge that’s the only script they’ve ever officially made available. As a huge fan of Marvel, and as a screenwriter myself, I’d love to get an idea of how the movie division of the House of Idea scripts its films.

It’s be especially cool if the Vol. 2 script came with photos and other extras in a manner similar to the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom illustrated screenplay, which I had — and loved — as a kid. Sadly, it seems both of the aforementioned books are now OOP, but I’m sure they can be found on eBay and the like.

In any case, Gunn’s plan to publish the Vol. 2 script is the best news I’ve heard all week. I’m super excited for it — whenever it comes.

Here’s to hoping James will autograph a copy for me.
